WORLD WAR ONE IN THE AIR,1988

FROM THE COCKPITS!

NINTH in the popular Arms & Armour Vintage Warbirds series published in the 1980s, this 64 page book presents over 100 rare air-to -air photos of WWI aeroplanes selected and captioned by Ray Rimell. There are some fascinating images here illustrating not only some of the most iconic of 1914-1918 warplanes, but also some real rarities such as the Port Victoria Eastchurch and Grain Kittens; German Otto pushers; Euler triplane and the awesome Riesenflugzeuge bombers. Our author-signed copy features creased covers but all the pages are intact.

IN this unique Arms & Armour Press  softback from 1988, author Ray Rimell provides concise captions to 120 rare photos of WWI aeroplanes in their natural element-the air. Aerial combat footage was scarce back then and many of the extraordinary images in this book were selected for their historical interest rather than their quality, but there are plenty of excellent examples too. Where else could you find such air-to-air rarities as the Euler Dr.I; Gotha G.I; Port Victoria, or the enormous German R-Planes built by Dornier; Linke Hoffman; Siemens Schuckert and Zeppelin Staaaken but in this unique compendium? Many more well-known types are showcased from Albatros to Sopwith and convey the flight characteristics of these early warplanes as their pilots fought not only their enemies, but also the elements and often the capricious nature of the aeroplanes they took aloft.  Whilst this copy has badly-creased covers,  all 64 pages remain in good condition...
