WINDSOCK International,Vol.5,No.2, SPECIAL SEAPLANE ISSUE!
ONE of the most popular WINDSOCK editions ever was the Summer SEAPLANE SPECIAL of 1989 with 1:72 scale plans features on four well-known German and Allied types-the Albatros W.4 fighter flying boat with four archive images and Ian Stair GAs covering early and late versions;the Fairey Hamble Baby of 1917 with six photos-including cockpit and bomb detail and Colin Owers' drawings;then there's the star of the piece- the Hansa Brandenburg W.29 seaplane fighter covered by Colin again in over six pages with photos, 1:72 scale plans and five tone profiles of markings. Completing the quartet is the Sopwith/Ansaldo Baby with plans ,photos and Italian contemporary markings' sketches. The nautical theme continues with Readers' Gallery presenting three brilliant scratchbuilt seaplanes whilst the editor contributes a build review of the Meikraft W.29 kit as featured on the cover, along with a colour centre-spread that showcases examples of all four featured types. We also look at WWI German Naval colours and this comes with a light grey blue paint chip. This land- mark edition also includes the usual reader feedback;book and kit reviews plus lots of period advertising. We have just the three copies left, all bearing evidence of mild wear and tear plus a few marks on the outer covers but all are complete with their paint chips intact. The rear cover features a colour portrait of the Shuttleworth Collection's RAF SE5a F904 to round off another great collector's edition.
