WIND-SOCK Vol.2,No.1 SPRING 1986 (h)

For the first 1986 edition we take a look at Merit's copy of the Aurora '1:48'Fokker D.VII with some notes on improving the kit; Logbook assesses books like Chaz Bowyer's 'Bristol Fighter' classic and 'Sopwith Fighters' by Jack Bruce, whilst Brian Peckham describes his beautiful R/C scale Bristol Scout. The editor takes the Revell Morane Saulnier Type N kit and gives it a good shaking to provide a more accurate replica. In support are some great portraits of the original aircraft  including cockpit, armament and two mono profiles. The Roland D.II comes into the Fabric column with eight archive shots, paint chips ( unknowingly based on since-discredited Rodney Gerrard material)*and a centre-spread showing four different paint schemes plus two planforms for the camouflage patterns. On other pages: building an RFC airfield Bell tent in 1:72 with working drawings;kit reviews for the Libramodels DH5 -complete with archive photo and sketches showing fuselage structure-the Merlin Roland D.II built and reviewed by the editor, plus vintage adverts and a rear cover portrait of an Albatros C.III highlighting the Mercedes engine, radiator and exhaust system. This mildly- creased edition also contains the original reader interest survey form that helped us steer the new magazine in the direction readers wanted. A true collector's item and we have just the one copy on offer...
