FOKKERS LITTLE AND LARGE...
Leading feature is from a Russian historian and deals with the mixed bag of Allied and Central Powers aircraft captured and produced under licence by the Soviets-it's a rare piece with plenty of photos! This time our plans feature centres on the Italian Pomilio Gamma 1F biplanes-both prototypes are drawn in the two popular scales by Colin A Owers in a special eight page feature. We have another of our model kit surveys on-this covering small scale Fokker Triplanes kits produced down the years in a variety of scales and materials.San Diego's beautiful full-scale Fokker E.III reproduction is emblazoned across the outer covers with more images and story inside. Gallery has some top-notch entrants from our readership and, also in colour,is a trio of Siemens Schuckert profiles to accompany the detailed review of a new 1:72 scale kit on pages 30 and 31. All the usual departments with some fascinating comments from our postbag, whilst Product's seven pages include decals, accessories and figures with over a dozen new kits revealed: Aeroclub's 1:48 scale 'Biff'; Blue Max Roland C.II; Czech resins from CMK and RVHP in resin; Breguet 14 from CMK and the unique Omega Models LFW American trainer for which we have four detail close-ups of the sole survivor-and it's not in the USA! From Toko are the Pfalz D.XII and Siemens Schuckert D.III/D.IV.
THIS edition's Despatches From St Petersburg is by Russian aero historian Andrei Alexandrov and edited by Harry Woodman. 'The West Supports Us' is a quote from semi-satirical novel from the Soviet era and could be taken two ways and this photo-essay provides over a dozen rarely seen-let alone published- archive photos of aircraft of all nations that supplied the Soviets among them: Fairey floatplanes; Short 184s; Ansaldo fighters; Vickers Viking; Junkers J.20 and even some Fokker D.VIIs. Plans feature this time around is by Colin Owers who draws and describes the Italian Pomilio Gamma 1F -both first and second prototypes are presented in 1:72 and 1:48 scales. 'The A-Z of scale WWI aeroplanes' series reaches Part 23a where more Fokker triplanes are catalogued. These are the smaller kits from the very first Airfix version in 1956 to the Revell 1:138 scale snap-together kit of 1995. Elsewhere, Tom Doherty provides some stunning monochrome photos of the San Diego Aerospace Museum's Fokker E.III reproduction on page 25 and the outer covers in full colour whilst Archive features a couple of Roland C.II photos.Gallery is in colour of course with some brilliant models from our subscribers including a 1:48 scale Pfalz E.I conversion and a scratch-built Lloyd C.V. Lots of candid comment in Despatches; new books in Logbook and seven pages of kit reviews. Among them are Omega Model's LFW US trainer with supportive photos of the sole survivor in Poland and the 1:72 scale Toko SSW D.III./D.IV for which three colour profiles of three Jasta examples appear on the outside back cover.
