CONCLUDING THIS YEAR'S RUN!

For the last edition of 1997 we have Part 22 of The Windsock A-Z of scale WWI aeroplanes covering Fokker E.V/D.VII fighters from Marcos Miniatures to Kelloggs with many more in between.  Robert Karr describes his amazing 1:48 Nieuports at Toul diorama and Bruce Robertson covers all the captured German aircraft  that fell into British hands, given specific G numbers and carefully studied and reported upon. One prime example was Hannover C.13199/17 and we have reprinted the original Ministry report over six pages including many photos and sketches of the airframe. Elsewhere we have a short 'Big Ack Archive', Harry Woodman looks at a German self-destruct device and all the regular columns appear with the latest books and decals. This issue's Products reviews the Lone Star 1:48 Junkers J-1; Hippo Macchi M-5; another Pfalz D.III from Eduard in Voss' colours and a detailed analysis of the Blue Max Camel. THIS popular edition features US top artist/modeller Robert Karr's superb 1:48 scale diorama of 94th AS Nieuport 28 fighters as featured on the front cover with a detailed accompanying feature telling us how he brought it all together. Marc Cilliers contributes a page of colour photos showcasing the South African  Museum of Military History's RAF SE5a displayed at Saxonwold while the editor continues his popular WWI kit A-Z series with Part 22 covering the many and varied plastic model kits of the Fokker E.V/D.VIII-the so called 'Flying Razor.Bruce Robertson presents a fascinating account of the G series of 'captured prizes' and provides many rare photos of many well-known German types under new colours. Added to which is a transcript of the original Ministry of Munitions 1918 Hannover C.13199/17 capture report that includes vital sketches and photos to aid modellers of this German two-seater with the biplane tail unit. Kits and decals come under close scrutiny,more brilliant readers models in colour-including a transparent Eindecker and there are a number of close-up colour images of an American-marked Camel displayed at Fort Ruckler in the USA supporting our detailed assessment of the Blue Max Sopwith Camel release.
