HALBERSTADT AND HYDROGEN!

In this packed issue we have a scratch-built SL9 airship model in colour; special three-page photo archive of  Brandenburg W.12s licence-built  in the Netherlands and an enormous  RN battleship gun turret with a flying-off platform to display the Eduard  RNAS Sopwith Pup! On other pages: Spad VII engine detail and a comprehensive Tom's Modelworks' Halberstadt CL.II kit build review complete with archive photo file. Foreign Legion Part 31  has the stories of night bomber pilots Hughes and Sebesta with rare photos and colour drawings of Voisin and Farman F.40 -the latter in full French five-colour camouflage. All the usual regulars including Mauro Cescutti's 1:48 scratch-built all-blue Oeffag flying boat flown by Banfield in Gallery. Among kits under review are: Eduard 1:48 Albatros D.V and D.Va;Collishaw's Black Maria Triplane; Pfalz D.III -their first one-and 1:72 scale Fokker E.V 'Sea Eagle', plus DFW C.V and Rumpler C.IV from Skybirds '86 and more...

LEAD feature in this issue is a little out of the ordinary being the description of  scratch-building a 1:144 scale airship. Not a Zeppelin but the Schutte Lanz SL.9 built in Finland by Ami Hassinen and it's a real beauty! Moving on, and Colin Owers brings a rare three page photo study of a Hansa Brandenburg W12 interned in Netherlands resulting in licence-built Van Berkal WA versions-great potential for the many W 12 kits available. In another modelling article Rod Holland creates a 1:48 scale flying-off platform for his Eduard Pup complete with polycard gunhouse (aka turret)! Looks stunning! Equally impressive is Tom Wictor's take on the Tom's Modelworks  1:48 scale resin Halberstadt Cl.II that graces this edition's  front cover. His efforts in refining and correcting the kit show what is achievable with skill and determination: for good measure the five page article is supported by an archive photo spread of the real aircraft. Jon Guttman contributes Part 31 of his long-running French Foreign Legion series with night bombing pilots from the USA and Bohemia taking centre stage.Unique photos and colour plans of Voisin and Farman F.50 bombers complete the proceedings. With extended Propwash column plus Logbook, Gallery-in colour-and five pages of kit reviews, this issue is not one to be missed!
