FLIGHT OF THE KONDORS!
2006 IPMS Nationals WWI winners' snapshots in colour head up this edition with a novel 1:48 scale Albatros Dr. I Triplane conversion incorporating one Eduard D.V with a resin wing set. Lengthy plans feature from Peter Grosz profiles the diminutive Kondor D.I/D.2 experimental fighters of 1918 with 1:48 and 1:72 scale drawings of both types by Colin Owers. Harry Woodman relates the saga of captured Friedrichshafen FF33 floatplane Marine Number 698 in Russia, whilst on other pages we have RE5/ and RE7 photo/drawing data from JMB/GSL files. Special SPAD features include some rare French examples in Archive and Gregory Alegi traces the history of Italian SPAD VII survivor S.1420 presenting nine colour images of this rare specimen's original fabric covering complete with its WWI markings and insignia supplying the best possible reference.Readers' models in colour with regular columns Logbook and Products carrying news and review of all the latest releases of the day.
MAIN modelling feature in this issue is Rod Holland's amalgam of Eduard Albatros D.V and Hi-Tech conversion set to present his unusual model of the Albatros Dr.I experimental Triplane and it looks really great! An extended plans feature spread over ten pages contains Peter Grosz's detailed story of the tiny Kondor fighter aircraft experimentals- the D.2 biplane and D.1 parasol monoplane. The author presents 15 ultra-rare photos of these diminutive designs from his extensive personal archive and Colin Owers' 1:48 and 1:72 scale plans of both types dovetail neatly with the learned commentary. In Despatches from St Petersburg, Harry Woodman edits a really unique piece on the Russian capture of Friedrichshafen FF33H floatplane 698 and its subsequent fate with photos and data from Andrei Alexandrov, whilst Archive presents some snapshots and factory drawings of the RAF RE5 and RE7 two-seaters.Devotees of SPAD fighters will find much to interest them in other pages with three previously unpublished SPAD 13 photos in French service and Gregory Alegi's fascinating Fabric feature describing the preserved SPAD VII at Vigna di Valle in Italy. The survivor's full history is related and there are seven colour photos showing airframe sectors in their original fabric covering intact complete with markings and insignia-a rare treat. All the usual book and kit reviews, plus more wonderful work from our talented subscribers adorning the rear cover round off another memorable edition...
