SCALE MODELS JUNE 1972 ISSUE

BLAST FROM THE PAST!

The June 1972 edition of the Scale Models then halfway the its third year of publication with a raw recruit assisting editor Ron Moulton in its production. At the time Ray was mainly building models and reviewing kits for the New To You? column but we all have to start somewhere... This issue carries the top-notch varied fare the magazine became so well known for with an eight page special on the AMC DH2 that  will be of interest to WWI modellers  with scale planes, colour notes and a build log for a 1:48 scratchbuilt hanging off a modified nacelle from the old Merit kit. Happy days!

This is the June 1982 edition of Scale Models when the model scene was so different to today with multiple advertisers vying to shoehorn their wares into the ground-breaking MAP magazine. No. 6,  Volume 3 contained the usual variety of topics with classic sailing ships; armour modelling; JPS Lotus Formula I racing car; card modelling; vintage scale models and reviews of kits new to the 1970's scene: Airfix Britten Norman Islander; Hasegawa BMW motorcycle, WWI wheels for large flying scale models and more besides. Main attraction for WWI modellers was eight pages devoted to the AMC DH2 single seat 'pusher' fighter biplane with 1:48 scale drawings; colour details plus monochrome profiles and Ray Rimell describing his scratchbuild of a 1:48 model based very loosely on the venerable Merit kit of blessed memory. Dripping real nostalgia throughout the pages, this early SM edition is a little careworn but complete. Signed by editorial assistant Ray Rimell....
