FRANCE'S FORMIDABLE  FLYER!

GEORGES Marie Ludovic Jules Guynemer was born in Paris on 24 December 1894 and  destined to become one of the most famous French fighter pilots of the First World War with a total victory score of 54. Dennis Hylands paints a fascinating picture of this young man's meteoric rise in his country's fledgling air service with the aid of many rare archive images, many of which appeared for the first time in ACES & AEROPLANES 2 that became one of our most popular titles and very quickly sold out. We have this one final copy, complete and in good condition with slightly yellowed outer covers and small creases on right hand corners. None of which affects the many unique period photos; the centre-spread SPAD XII colour plate and rear cover Nieuport 10 profile. There's a very detailed victory log too-with photos-that records the pilot's many successes before his death in September 1917. The name of Guynemer  shines bright in his native France even to this day and one of his original SPAD VII fighters is preserved at Le Bourget in its original carefully-preserved fabric.

An original 1987 first edition of our third Datafile which profiled the Albatros D.V German WWI fighter written and illustrated by Ray Rimell. 24 pages,including covers, with over 30 archive photos,scale plans in two scales,four colour profiles along with discussion of colours and markings. Very slight creases on covers but this old stager is otherwise in extremely good condition! One only...

LAST REMAINING EDITION!

INTRODUCED in 1917, the French-designed Hanriot HD.1 would become one of Italy's most favoured fighters of the war with over 1700 being built by the Societe Nieuport-Macchi.  120 were manufactured in Belgium for their Army's air service whose pilots found the nimble biplane very much to their liking. One of the country's most successful Hanriot exponents was leading ace Willy Coppens who scored 37 victories flying various Hanriots, 26 of these being balloons....

In this rare DATAFILE Jack Bruce outlines the type's history with many archive photos and the content is further enhanced by 1:72 and 1:48 scale drawings; seven contemporary airframe sketches; complete five-colour camouflage schematic and four colour profiles by series editor Ray Rimell on outer covers. Surviving airframes are listed and there are many candid close-ups of one of these-HD.I No.75 when displayed at the Royal Air Force Museum in Hendon. This Hanriot was subsequently acquired by the Vintage Aviation Ltd company in New Zealand and restored to full airworthiness. Our copy of DF12 is in near-mint condition.

THE purposeful 1916 Albatros C.III twin seat reconnaissance aircraft  and light bomber is given the star treatment by Peter Grosz's authoritative narrative and a selection of 60 unique period photos. Full design development and service details are presented over  36 pages with detailed 1:48 and 1:72 scale plans and rear cover colour plates by series editor Ray Rimell. This edition is the second imprint of 1999 with several new photos,corrections and revised artwork. Remaining copies are in very good condition.

THE THOROUGHBRED!

Jack Bruce authored this classic DATAFILE, No.28 in the long running series, published in 1991. 36 pages, including covers, provide a richly-illustrated account of the extraordinary Avro 504K that was built in great numbers, initially serving as a bomber then becoming the standard trainer in WWI enjoying a lengthy post- war career with multiple variants produced. Supplied to many overseas countries, the 504K remained in service for many years with some of the last examples being retired as late as 1935. This scarce original first edition in in VGC and contains dozens of rare photos-including airframe close-ups; scale drawings; markings notes; three colour profiles; contemporary handbook sketches and a model survey. Included with the DATAFILE is a dedicated modelling feature on the type by Harry Woodman.
