PROFILE 224 WALRUS & SEAGULL VARIANTS

''THE TIME HAS COME THE WALRUS SAID''...

..and so it has with David Brown's excellent Profile Publications 224 on the beloved  amphibious biplane that became such a welcome sight for downed airmen in the English Channel during World War Two. Written by David Brown with six pages of colour profiles by P Endsleigh Castle, this 48 page monograph packs a lot in. Forty archive images provide support to the author's concise and informed narrative which will be a vital asset to modelllers of the immortal 'Shagbat'. Although our copy has some inked numbers on the front and inner covers, it is complete if a little careworn and remains an essential source for anyone modelling this iconic aeroplane.

PUBLISHED in 1971, this 52 page monograph was written and compiled by David Brown and contains over 40 archive photos and six pages of great colour artwork. The centre-spread features a five-view layout depicting MK.1 Walrus P5668 'Alice II' boarded on HMS Gloucester and employed for spotting during the Battle of Cape Matapan on 28 March 1941. Other profiles by P Endsleigh Castle ARAeS show a pair of pre-war aluminium-doped examples; three wartime 'Shagbats,' including an RAAF machine from HMS Victorious; a French Aeronavale Mk.1 trainer and post-war Antarctica-based whale spotter G-AHFL that offers an attractive bright yellow finish.

David's text is concise and informative whilst the diverse photo selection offers many images of 'Walri' in their natural elements as well as a number of shipbpard images. The type's combat career; Fleet operations; catapult deployment on HM Ships and many other equally fascinating aspects are covered.

Our copy is a little worn in places and bears some dimensional notes written of the front cover with minor marks on the inside. For all that, it's complete and carries a great deal of historical and illustrative material which will prove invaluable to modellers with either Merit, Classic Airframe or Airfix kits on their work bench.
