WHERE IT ALL BEGAN...
THIS original first edition copy from 1933 is a pioneering scale aircraft modelling book written and beautifully illustrated by a youthful J H Stevens, published by John Hamilton of London who produced scores of classic aviation books between the wars. This one helped establish the traditional 1:72 scale for model aircraft that soon became the standard adopted by manufacturers and many modellers from then on. This well-used copy of Scale Model Aircraft was latterly owned by Harry Woodman who tipped in a couple of obituaries that showed what a fascinating life the author led in aviation. The 100 page book is crammed with drawings, sketches and modelling know-how, expounding well-proven techniques for producing mostly wood replicas using other basic materials, prerequisites being patience, steady hands and an eye for detail. Our copy has seen better days, but this is more than offset by the nostalgic content presenting a peek into a modelling world predating the emergent plastic kit industry of the early 1950s.

WWI GERMAN AEROPLANE CLASSIC PICTORIAL!
This 64 page soft-back title was published buy Arms and Armour Press in 1985 and contains over 116 rare images of WWI German aeroplanes and airships that served in the country's air arm during the First World War. Many well-known types are covered and with images especially chosen for their rarity and clarity provide a superb visual record of these early warbirds. Our copy is a little worn with some minor creasing but is complete. Signed by author Ray Rimell.
GENUINE 1915 LEWIS MG HANDBOOK!
THIS is a fascinating handbook that covers in great detail the design, operation and maintenance of the 1915 Model Lewis machine gun in over 48 pages with a fold-out fully- annotated general arrangement drawing dated 6 June 1916. This genuine wartime soft cover publication contains lots of excellent photos and drawings that makes for a first class reference on one of the Allies' most widely-employed air weapon. Good condition.
WREN'S WARTIME WACKY WONDERS!
RARE wartime booklet published by Temple Press Ltd., of Warwick Square , London responsible for the iconic long-running The Aeroplane and The Aeroplane Spotter magazines that enjoyed wide circulations for many years. Chis Wren illustrated a series of caricatured aeroplanes along with accompanying rhymes for these periodicals to help with aircraft recognition- a vital aspect of wartime Britain. Over 60 of these were collated and reprinted in this modest little book that also includes photos of each aircraft alongside their 'oddentifications'. We have one copy of this now- scarce relic which apart from a somewhat tatty cover, is otherwise in good condition.
AIRCRAFT OF THE FIGHTING POWERS!
THIS classic 217 page hard back publication dates from 1954, from Harleyford (nee Harborough) Publications, and written by Owen Thetford with 80 1:72 scale drawings from EJ Riding under the steady-handed editorial hand of D A Russell. To those of a certain age, these names will be familiar, their stature in the field of aeronautical publishing needing little introduction having already established their credentials and would continue to do so for many years. This pioneering study of WWI aircraft with its constant scale plans and 234 photos was unique at the time, one of the first to record so many classic types within the covers of a single publication. Despite many of the scale drawings falling well short of the accuracy and detail we take for granted today, they offered enthusiasts back in the day an unprecedented reference source, setting a standard for many future titles. Still wearing its original dust jacket, this copy is in good condition and complete, providing bibliophiles a prime example of early aeronautical publishing...

THE 1992 Fokker Triplane monograph that has attained almost mythic status and well-deserved as it remains one of the best books ever written about a WWI fighter aeroplane. 128 packed pages, meticulously researched and written with gravitas and authority by Alex Imrie who needs no introduction to WWI aircraft devotees. ONE of the RAF's most well-known biplane fighters with its enclosed cockpit, four machine guns and an exceptional performance, the Gladiator proved to be a formidable combat aeroplane during WWII despite its perceived antiquated appearance. 300 Axis aircraft fell to the guns of RAF Gladiators during the war and its exploits border on the legendary. This highly-informative and superbly-illustrated hard cover tome was written by acknowledged British aero historian Frank K Mason ARAeS forming part of the popular Macdonald Aircraft Monograph series published during the early 1960s.Our ex-library copy is a little careworn with some mild staining on several pages but it is complete and every bit as valid a history now as it was all those years ago. The copy has its original dust jacket which has been protected-mostly!-by a clear polythene wrap that nevertheless preserved it well. Gladiator modelling enthusiasts will find this excellent book to be a superb reference that has not dated...
POLISHED RAZOR!
An excellent all encompassing pictorial record of the Fokker D.VIII/E.V in Polish air service after WWI. With over 130 rare archive images and over two dozen pages of superb colour profiles this is an extraordinary survey of the late war Fokker Parasol fighter following its limited service in WWI. An absolute goldmine of information and we have a few copies in mint condition.

..and so it has with David Brown's excellent Profile Publications 224 on the beloved amphibious biplane that became such a welcome sight for downed airmen in the English Channel during World War Two. Written by David Brown with six pages of colour profiles by P Endsleigh Castle, this 48 page monograph packs a lot in. Forty archive images provide support to the author's concise and informed narrative which will be a vital asset to modelllers of the immortal 'Shagbat'. Although our copy has some inked numbers on the front and inner covers, it is complete if a little careworn and remains an essential source for anyone modelling this iconic aeroplane.

At the time Ray was mainly building models and reviewing kits for the New To You? column but we all have to start somewhere... This issue carries the top-notch varied fare the magazine became so well known for with an eight page special on the AMC DH2 that will be of interest to WWI modellers with scale planes,colour notes and a build log for a 1:48 scratchbuilt hanging off a modified nacelle from the old Merit kit.
