No.6, THE BRISTOL BULLDOG
THE BULLDOG BREED!
Serving with the RAF during the 1930s as its first line of defence and equipping ten squadrons, the feisty Bristol Bulldog also performed memorable formation aerobatics at many pre-war public air displays. Popular with kit manufacturers over the years the type has been immortalised by Inpact in 1968 and later by Airfix in two scales. C F Andrew's Profile is the perfect reference for builders of these kits with 30 rare photos; detailed history and superb colour plates depicting colourful markings of seven Bulldog squadrons. VGC.
THE Bristol Bulldog was designed by the brilliant Captain Frank Barnwell and deliveries of Mk.II Bulldogs began to reach RAF squadrons in May 1929: eventually the improved Mk.IIa became the standard equipment of ten fron -line fighter units in the early 1930s. Invariably aluminium-doped and polished metal-finished the Bulldogs wore eye-catching colourful markings, among them being the red and white chequerboards of North Weald's No.56 as applied to rebuilt K-2227 that resides in the RAF Museum. C F Andrews presents a detailed history of the Bulldog's development and service, not just with the RAF but also Bulldogs in Foreign service with 30 photos and 8 colourful subjects on inner covers. This 1964 copy is in VGC with minimal creasing.
