No.175, THE PHONIX SCOUTS
AUSTRIAN ACE-MAKER!
THE first Phonix fighters reached the Front in early 1917 and after a shaky start proved to be highly effective combat machines being fast and well able to outclimb their Sopwith Camel opponents. George Haddow covers the three main variants in this well-illustrated Profile with 26 archive photos and superb colour art by the publishers' resident artists: two Navy and three Army aircraft are featured along with a trio of post-war Swedish examples. Copy is in very good condition.
ONE of the few Profiles to feature a WWI Austro-Hungarian subject was No.175 in the series with George Haddow's learned treatise on the Phonix Scouts first published in 1967. This excellent monograph provides over 26 rare archive photos from the author's extensive collection and include not only wartime Dual Monarchy Army and Navy examples, but also post-war aircraft in Swedish service. D.I; D.II and D.III variants are chronicled and the inner covers feature eight colour profiles with the frontispiece illustrating Naval J.I resplendent in its extensive national red and white striped markings on wings and tail surfaces.
