No.127, THE ALBATROS D.III
ALBATROS FIGHTERS!
The story of the successful twin-gunned Albatros fighters that created mayhem in the early months of 1917 to such effect that it became known as 'Bloody April' in the annals of the Royal Flying Corps. Few Allied aircraft of the time cope with them until the advent of the Sopwith Pup and Triplane that could meet them on near equal terms. Our copy is in good condition with a few creases and partly separated spine but is complete.
These famous early Albatros fighters are meticulously chronicled by Peter L Gray in the 127th Profile. It was the D.III that formed the backbone of German fighter operations in the Spring of 1917 and were to decimate the markedly inferior Allied observation aircraft. Armed with two machine guns synchronised to fire through the airscrew arc, Albatros kanone notched up substantial victories, notably those of Manfred von Richthofen's Jasta 11 with their red-painted 'Vee-strutters'. Over 30 photos and inner cover colour art showcasing nine individual Albatrosse researched by the author with input from Alex Imrie.
