No.109, THE HANRIOT HD.1

1917 ACE MAKER!

DESIGNED by Pierre Dupont who joined Rene Hanriot's newly-formed factory in 1916,the Hanriot HD.1 was of compact and simple lines-almost 'Sopwithian'. Passed over by the French in favour of the SPAD VII which was already in production, the new biplane found favour with top Belgian and Italian airmen who achieved great success with it. This Jack Bruce Profile was published in 1966 and contains over two dozen archive images that also include the HD.2 variants. Colour profiles on inner covers showcase eight colourful examples of this attractive-looking machine popular with scale modellers the World over.

FOR Profile No.109, Jack Bruce turned the spotlight on a French-designed fighter that whilst finding little favour with the air services of its own nation became a key asset of two others. Leading aces from Belgium and Italy made good use of the Hanriot HD.1 and the petite biplane would also bear myriad colourful liveries during its career. With over 26 period photos, Jack recalls the Hanriot's wartime exploits and covers the HD.2 float- and land-plane  developments as well as employment on US Navy warships after the war. Inner covers depict an octet of colour profiles illustrating six examples flown by Italy's Aeronautica Militaire and a brace of Aviation Belge Hanriots. We have several copies in stock all mildly careworn and slightly yellowed in places but complete.
