THIS one-of a kind original first edition of Early Aircraft Armament is from the author's personal collection and includes his own pencilled notes on a number of pages correcting some points and expanding on others. With over 250 packed pages, this is an unmatched example of aeronautical research and dedication, unravelling the history of early attempts to arm aeroplanes before the start of WWI and to its end like never before. With over 200 archive images, 70 of Harry's excellent line drawings, this splendid book covers a wide range of associated topics, including gun mountings; gun sights and ammunition.
AN exceptionally well-written, meticulously-researched and profusely-illustrated survey of 'The Aeroplane and the Gun up to 1918', sub-title to Harry Woodman's widely-praised Early Aircraft Armament published by Arms and Armour Press in 1989. This authoritative tome will probably remain the standard work on early aeroplane weaponry, which also takes into account development of pioneering interrupter gears and ultimately the synchronised machine gun which marked such a decisive turning point in the first air war. The author has stripped away many of the myths surrounding the subject and supports his detailed and informed narrative with 70 of his own superb line drawings. The 254 page book also includes over 200 archive photos carefully selected to show the various guns, fittings, rotating mounting rings, gun sights and synchronisation gear for all the warring nations-it is a compelling encyclopaedia and an absolute treasure-trove for WWI aeromodellers regardless of the scales and materials they favour. The book on offer still has its original dust cover which is somewhat careworn, prompting us to conduct some minor repairs, and several pages have pencilled comments and corrections from the author himself as this is one of Harry's own precious file copies. Some little extra items are also inserted within a few pages that make this copy even more unique!
