AIRCRAFT OF THE FIGHTING POWERS!

THIS classic 217 page hard back publication dates from 1954, from Harleyford (nee Harborough) Publications, and written by Owen Thetford with 80 1:72 scale drawings from EJ Riding under the steady-handed editorial hand of D A Russell. To those of a certain age, these names will be familiar, their stature in the field of aeronautical publishing needing little introduction having already established their credentials and would continue to do so for many years. This pioneering study of WWI aircraft with its constant scale plans and 234 photos was unique at the time, one of the first  to record so many classic types within the covers of a single publication. Despite many of the scale drawings falling well short of the accuracy and detail we take for granted today, they offered enthusiasts back in the day an unprecedented  reference source, setting a standard for many future titles. Still wearing  its original dust jacket, this copy is in good condition and complete, providing bibliophiles  a prime example of early aeronautical publishing...

THIS is genuine second edition of a truly ground-breaking 1946 publication, one of the first Harleyford Publications titles, compiled by Owen Thetford and Eddie Riding. Aircraft of the 1914-1918 War was the first book to describe and illustrate with photos and 1:72 scale plans a wide range of types of all the leading combatants covering 80 aircraft. Within its 127 pages, the book contains over 230 photos and is in good condition although some of the fold-out pages spreads are a little fragile and demand careful handling. Most surviving copies lack their original dust jacket but this copy is a rare exception and a few tears aside, the paper covers are in remarkably fine condition. True, many of the scale plans have long since been superseded by subsequent drawings, but this venerable tome set the pattern for the extensive range of Harleyford aircraft books that followed, building into a highly-respected reference library that served the aviation enthusiast market for so many years.
