AG No.1-SPITFIRE MK.V

THE TRUE THOROUGHBRED!

The Mk.V Spits are covered in this image-rich publication that presents over 60 monotone photos of wartime examples and candid close-ups of the Shuttleworth Collections AR501 taken in 1985 when it still sported clipped wings. These particular images form an historical record in their own right quite apart from their value to the legions of  Spitfire modellers! Plenty of line drawings depict airframe details, ordnance and undercarriage schematics plus a full two page cutaway with much interior detail shown. Further line drawings offer five different markings' schemes and the rear cover has a full colour side portait of an overseas Mk.Vb in desert camouflage. 32 packed pages within card covers-we have only a small handful left now and all are in good condition, signed by author Ray Rimell.

Who has never heard of the Supermarine Spitfire-that superb WWII RAF fighter aircraft? Not many, even now and this fabulous flying machine still evokes emotions when any of the current restored examples fly overhead with the unforgettable sound of that Rolls Royce Merlin at full chat! In this  first Aeroguide Classics monograph, Ray Rimell looks at the development and wartime history of the Mk.V, a development of the Battle of Britain Mk.I, powered by an up-rated Merlin and fitted with cannon armament in the Vb and Vc variants. In 36 pages, the Spitfire Mk.V history is well supplemented with over 18 period photos and over 43 close-up photos of the Shuttleworth Collection's airworthy Vc AR501.The detail photos cover airframe; engine; control surfaces; armament; undercarriage and cockpit areas along with top quality line drawings of exhaust manifolds; engine bearers; the four wing gun installations; slipper tank and bomb carrier; undercarriage mechanism; windscreen and canopy plus the pilot's seat and support. Additional line drawings include a detailed centre-fold cutaway fully annotated,  three pages of monotone profiles and a four view depicting BM461 based at Hornchurch in June 1942. The rear cover boasts  an excellent colour  profile of EP689, a Mk VB from No.601 Squadron, Sicily in 1943 wearing desert camouflage. We have a few author-signed copies of this title remaining and all are in good condition with minor creasing on some folios.
