66. RAF BE12/a/b

MORE HORSEPOWER!

An attempt to power up the 2c, the 12's wartime career was one of mixed fortunes here studiously recounted by top historian J M Bruce with the aid of official documents and records. With extra pages, the book covers all variants with over 90 photos and nine pages of scale plans...LIMITED STOCK...

The BE12 was an attempt to provide an uprated version of the BE2c-see Datafile 172-by installing the RAF-designed 12 cylinder air-cooled engine that would enter full-scale production as the RAF4a.Not too far behind came the BE12a which adopted the wings and tail unit of the BE2e-see Datafiles 14 and 165-but it saw limited operational usage. The basic airframe underwent further changes with the development of the BE12b powered by the 200-hp Hispans Suiza which drastically changed the nose contours. The turbulent story of all three of these aeroplanes is fully documentd by Jack Bruce in this unique monograph which  contains over 90 rare archive images of these largely unregarded warplanes.Extra pages embrace nine folios of 1:48 and 1:72 scale drawings along with  many close-up photos plus  full colours and markings data with three colour plates.Full appendices round out a very comprehensive study.
