46.SOPWITH SNIPE*FIRST EDITION
SUPERLATIVE SOPWITH!
THE Sopwith Snipe was introduced only at the tail-end of WWI and saw limited employment over the Western Front but went on to serve steadily in for another decade with the peacetime Royal Air Force. Written by Jack Bruce, this rare July 1994- dated First Edition contains 90 photos with many close-up images and several 1918 handbook sketches along the way. The 1:72 and 1:48 scale general arrangement drawings are provided by Colin A Owers across centre pages with Ray Rimell contributing the camouflage and markings notes as well as the rear cover colour plates. Detailed appendices and model kit listings up to the year of publication round off the book. With minor creases it remains in very good condition.
THE 1918 Sopwith 7F.1 Snipe single seat fighter is meticulously profiled by the eminent aero-historian Jack Bruce in this First Edition DATAFILE from July 1994. Relatively small numbers of Snipes served with the Royal Air Force during the closing stages of the war with barely 100 in Front-line service by the Armistice. Post-war, the Bentley-powered biplane equipped a dozen squadrons and was only declared obsolete in 1928. There are over 90 photos crammed into this 36 page monograph, along with over a dozen contemporary sketches, Colin Owers' scale plans in 1:48 and 1:72 scales, plus detailed camouflage and markings' notes, expansive appendices and a model kit list up to the date of publication-much expanded since 1994! This excellent study offers un-matched reference and documentation for flying scale enthusiasts and plastic modellers building this classic Sopwith fighter design...
