34. SOPWITH STRUTTER

CLASSIC SOPWITH TWO-SEATER

THIS  detailed study of the long-serving Sopwith two-seater was published in July 1992 and never reprinted. Written by Jack Bruce, it is an accurate and extensive record of a type that served long-term with not only the RFC and RNAS, but also with the French Aviation Militaire-in fact production of the type in France exceeded that of its home country. This excellent monograph is replete with ilustrations:87 archive photos  (12 of which are airframe close-ups);three contemporary handbook sketches plus 1:72 and 1:48 scale plans from Ian Stair. Series editor Ray Rimell contributes a list of survivors, model kit survey and a colours and markings section together with three rear cover colour profiles.

FIRST introduced in 1916,the Sopwith company drawing office-annotated Land Clerget Tractor (LCT) would be forever known as the 11/2 Strutter due to its central wing strut arrangement.Jack M Bruce's detailed study of the long-serving Sopwith two-seater version boasts over 70 archive photos (including French examples) together with a dozen rare contemporary close-ups and 43 specially-taken  detailed close-ups of the RAF Museum's exact reproduction when initially displayed at Hendon. DATAFILE 34 also includes colours and markings notes with three rear cover profiles by series editor Ray Rimell, structural drawings, RAFwire dimensions and centre-spread 1:72 and 1:48 scale GAs by Ian Stair. Our sole remaining edition has lower right-hand corner creases but is otherwise in good condition and complete.
