1:72/1:48 Americal Nos.2,4, and 5 Squadrons ,RFC/RAF
THIS combined set of Americal/Gryphon decals was released in 2000 and is extremely comprehensive with four sheets providing myriad markings for a number of different early WWI British subjects in both 1:72 and 1:48 -all sharing a common descriptive booklet written by Glen Merrill.
*1:72 scale Sheet No.164 contains a total of 55 various aircraft serving with Nos. 2,4 and 5 Squadrons RFC/RAF. These same aircraft are spread across the two scaled-up 1:48 sheets viz;
*No.65 features 30 machines including: 5 x BE2AS; 3x BE2bs; a dozen BE2cs; 4 x BE2ds; a pair of BE2es and a quartet of 'Harry Tates'.Ten of these types are from No.2 Sqdn.,13 from No.4 and seven of No.5.
*Sheet 166 boasts 25 types in 1:48 and an even greater selection: seven Vickers FB.5s;a pair of Bristol Scouts Type B and a single Type C;seven 'Big Acks' ;one each Martinsyde S.1,Farman F.20 and 27 plus two Avro 504s;a Bleriot Parasol; a DH2 and an FE8. Nine of the examples are from No.4 Squadron,a pair from No.4 and over a dozen of No. 5 Sqdn.
All told there are four separate densely-packed sheets in this package plus a comprehensive 28 page guide to each and every aircraft. Also included is a square of clear-doped fabric from one of the Shuttleworth Collection's preserved WWI aircraft- the Avro 504K following its third repaint into a nightfighter. This is NOT original WWI fabric but it does provide a good idea of the clear fabric appearance used on many of the aircraft featured in these decals.
