THE WINGED SWORD!
ONE of many great 1:72 WWI aeroplane kits produced by Roden of Kiev in the Ukraine, their Albatros D.III set a high bar and this particular model remains among their best. Cleverly-designed mouldings offer a wide choice of variables and the standard of moulding is high throughout. With detailed cockpit and Mercedes powerplant, this is an excellent model of the Albatros D.III which includes an expansive decal sheet with over 10 options. In addition, our kit includes another two decal sheets with a further eight alternative markings choices-quite the package...

THE Roden Albatros flock was carefully designed to make optimum use of the original tools by offering multiple- choice mouldings that could suit a wide range of versions. One of the first of these was 012,a German D.III in the markings of Oblt.Rudolf Berthold, CO of Jasta 14,April 1917,with a further eight subjects on the generous decal sheet. All parts are very well detailed, particularly the authentic treatment of fabric-covered wings and tail surfaces-probably the best in this scale. The upper wing came in separate panels with three optional centre-sections depending on the radiator fit. Likewise, the fuselage with a separate nose cowl; alternative fins and rudders; exhausts; wheels; upper fuselage deckings; airscrews and struts-all rather clever. There's also a choice of engines and armament. Some of these parts are extremely fine indeed, right down to the distinctive control column grips and engine components. Markings on the decal sheet include various well-known subjects including four from Jasta 11; the captured 'Vera' in French colours; Loerzer's piebald D.III; and Albatrosse flown by Loewenhardt; von Bertrab and Werner Voss although modern 'sensibilities' have resulted in the pilot's swastikas being 'redacted' on the sheet and instructions!
*EXTRAS! Included with the kit are two rather special bonus decal sheets that collectively provide markings for at least another nine D.III examples. These originated with a Master Craft 1:48 scale ex-Merit kit but trust us,these are 1:72 ! They came with a large full-colour guide showing multiple views that don't all accord with the decals offered but which nevertheless are unavailable elsewhere. Excellent add-ons for the Roden kits!
