1:72 REVELL (US) WWI 'GROUP 3' PACKAGE!
REVELL'S EARLY BIRDS!
BACK in 1965, Revell released a unique WWI themed threesome in 1:72 scale-all of them 1915/1916 fighter designs. The British de Havilland DH2 pusher (H-643); French Morane Saulnier Type N monoplane (H-664) and the notorious German Fokker E.III Eindecker ( H-665) were mostly accurate and certainly original subjects that had not been kitted to this scale before. We have all three US-boxed versions, each bearing Brian Knight's fabulous artwork slightly changed from his originals for Revell GB in the UK where the trio was first released. All three kits are in very good condition although their box lower trays show some wear and creasing.
*The DH2 is moulded in beige and includes a stand from a spare kit and also a two-option high-quality decal sheet courtesy of the Revell Germany 2007 reissue.
*The Morane is moulded in white plastic and exhibits some flash on smaller parts. It includes the original kit decal sheet with markings for the Imperial Russian Type N flown by Smirnov and the macabre rudder motif.
* Finally, the Eindecker. Moulded in beige with the stand and a spare rudder in light grey from a later reissue. The original kit decals offer markings for E.III 210/16 and wing eiserne kreuze show evidence of cracking so the excellent 2008 Revell Germany sheet has been included as compensation. This carries markings of two aircraft and includes stencils as well as wing compass and leather cockpit padding.
All three kits include their original instructions, copyrighted Revell GB, all have been checked for completeness and parts carefully secured within ziploc bags to prevent escapes. We are offering these excellent kits as a unique 3-in-1 package which is available only from this website...
DURING the 1950s and 1960s, WWI model aeroplane kits from the USA fell into two distinct camps:firstly Aurora with their 20-strong 1:48 scale range and Revell with their extraordinary ground-breaking 1:28 scale fighter triumvirate and the dozen 1:72 models that followed. Three of the latter, released in 1965, were intelligently themed 1915-1916 designs: H-643, De Havilland D.H.2; H-644, Morane Sauulnier Type N and H-645, the Fokker Eindecker E-III. They were warmly welcomed by the WWI brigade at the time since no such 1:72 scale pusher aircraft or monoplanes from the period had been available before. Of the three, the DH2 proved the greater challenge with its many struts and spindly tail booms. Accurate in outline, it comprised over three dozen parts moulded in beige, well-detailed; featuring rotating engine, propeller and wheels. The latter are one of its few calumnies being far too large with over-exaggerated wheel discs- best replaced as is the lacklustre Lewis! But the remainder is up to the mark and our example is in VGC with some flash. Modest decals provide roundels and rudder stripes serialled 5964-one of 100 built by AMC in 1915. As a bonus we have included the decals from the 2007 re-issue with authentic No.24 Squadron markings for 6011 and 7489 of No.29 Sqdn.RFC-roundels have separate red centre spots to aid registration. (The original kit stand was missing so it has been replaced with a spare). Manufactured in the USA by Revell Inc. of Venice, California, the superb box-top art was Brian Knight's who reworked his original painting from the Revell GB release...
The French Morane Saulnier Type N was moulded in white for this US kit-beige in GB versions-and contains 23 parts plus the traditional two-piece display stand. Surface detail is above average with commendably thin tail feathers and wing trailing edges. Curiously the fuselage sternpost ends in a sharp point whereas on the real Morane, upper and lower areas were wide and flat when viewed from above. Also, the spinner is too small and pointy although on a plus side the undercarriage set-up and pylons are finely-crafted albeit carrying a modicum of flash. The petite Le Rhone is well detailed but most of it will remain hidden if you create an accurate spinner.Markings are for Russia's Ivan Smirnoff with dramatic skull and crossbones motif on fin and rudder. Again, Brian Knight produced the box art depicting the Morane Bullet with aluminium-doped areas and natural metal finish as opposed to the original artwork in CDL with black-enamelled nose areas and metal parts.
Finally we have the notorious Eindecker-25 parts moulded in a light buff with a clever two-piece fuselage that does away with the usual centre-line joints. Wing and elevator ribs are somewhat over-stated and feature unnecessary 'fabric' texture. Otherwise, an accurate miniature of the pioneering fighter monoplane with its synchronised 'Spandau' firing through the airscrew arc. Revell's kit is a good effort with finely-wrought undercarriage; pylons; wheel halves and cowling. Our example also contains a stand from a used kit as well as a spare rudder (Part 18) moulded in very pale grey. The simple decal sheet provides serial number 210/15 and reveals evidence of cracking eiserne kreuze that likely makes the sheet redundant. However our kit does include an excellent replacement from the 2008 release with authentic markings for 105/16 providing the leather cockpit coaming; wing tread plates; cowling placards; wing compass and hier anheben legends-a truly comprehensive sheet. Again, the box art differs from the Revell GB kit by removing the pilot's head to replace it with rolling verdant fields and gently-snaking river system. All three kits are copyrighted by Revell Inc.of the USA,although instruction and decal sheets were printed by Revell GB.
***These three mini-masterpieces are being offered exclusively here as a unique single 3-in-1 special package for enthusiasts and collectors! We can also provide excellent references for both DH2 and Eindecker-please see below for links...
