PETITE PLASTIC PUP!
Released in 1975 as a boxed Series 1 kit, the Airfix Sopwith Pup is considered by many as being one of their finest WWI models. 26 finely-detailed parts moulded in 'pale linen' make for a stand-out production. It build easily into a first-class model requiring only minimal corrections to the lower front fuselage and removal of heavy control horns-otherwise the overall finesse of the mouldings, coupled with accurate surface detail and scale outlines, is highly commendable. Our kit is in mint condition and contains a generous number of spares from several unbuilt Pup kits. Decals offer a choice of RNAS or RFC exemplars and colour guides for both are provided under the box.

ACCURATE and crisply-moulded,the Sopwith Pup was (and remains) one of the most popular WWI aircraft kits ever produced by Airfix. With just 26 parts moulded in a pale linen shade, it embodied authentic surface detail throughout with commendably fine flying and control surfaces-so thin that they are almost translucent. Cowling is moulded in two segments and the tiny Monosoupape rotary it corrals is quite exquisite. Few modifications are required to enhance the kit which is ripe for conversion with many options being possible. Comparing main components with Steve Simkin's GAs in our 1992 Sopwith Pup Special emphasises how well Airfix toolmakers did in designing a model which builds into a delightful miniature. One welcome feature was a pair of slotted wing jigs to achieve precise wing stagger.
The modest decal sheet offers a choice of markings:N6185 from No.4 Naval, RNAS bearing the legend 'ANZAC' on its fuselage, and A7325 a B Flight Pup serving with No.40 Squadron RFC. Colour guides for both appear under a box that bears Ken McDonough's superb action painting on top-very evocative indeed! Airfix have re-issued the kit a number of times, most recently in 2025 as part of their ongoing retro 'Classic' series but ours is a genuine 1975 first edition...
