1:72 AIRFIX FOKKER TRIPLANE, (1387)-1957

NO FRILLS FOKKER!

1957 saw release of the Airfix Fokker DR.I Triplane,  one of their most basic 1:72 scale models and unsurprisingly in bright red plastic for one of the Baron's machines. With only 24 parts the kit was quick to assemble, despite the extra wing, and looked OK  when carefully built and painted even if it was slightly smaller than true 1:72 scale! Our example is one of the earliest with the 'Type 1' paper header bearing Charles Oates vivid art and is slightly creased. On the other hand plastic content is sound missing just one u/c leg which has been cured by an extra parts runner being included. Alternative decals for Voss' F.I 103/17 are also in the packet.

**CONTAINS EXTRA PARTS AND DECALS!

ONE of the smallest of very early Series 1 Airfix kits and moulded in vivid scarlet plastic-what else? Their take on von Richthofen's iconic DR.I 152/17 contains just two dozen parts-all fairly basic with acceptable surface detail for the period. Apart from the true-scale aerofoil axle fairing and slightly over-sized tailplane/elevator other main parts are underscale with wing and aileron outlines that require some attention. Simple to build, and paint if you have decided on 152/17 or 425/17,it's certainly a typical 'weekend project'! Plastic content is near mint and complete other than a missing undercarriage leg (part 18) that we have resolved by including a replacement runner in grey from the later 1972 issue that also provides some extra pieces for your spares box.

Decals are adequate and we have included a more recent sheet from the boxed Werner Voss reissue (01074) complete with facial cowling decoration. The Triplane has been reissued several times over the years and in 1965 was paired-up with the Bristol  Fighter for the second 'Dogfight Double' set (D261F).
