1:72 AIRFIX D.H. 4 (131),1967

'ONE OF FOUR...'

Issued in 1967 the 1:72 Airfix DH4 remains one of the best WWI British aircraft kits ever produced in this scale. Our kit lacked its original Lewis/rear gun mounting and the shortfall has been made good by extra runners that also provide airscrew and four additional bombs. The kit is in its original pale cream plastic and is not only accurate in outline, but also extremely well detailed especially fuselage halves with fabric wrinkles! All parts are in VCG although both decal sheet and paper header are a little careworn-a more recent decal sheet is included and  various loose parts have been individually bagged.

** CONTENTS INCLUDE EXTRA PARTS & DECALS!

ONE of five WWI aircraft kits unexpectedly released by Airfix during 1967 was their superb de Havilland DH4 day bomber. Moulded in pale cream, evoking typical unvarnished CDL,detail overall was exceptional with particularly accurate Vickers and Lewis guns. Four 112lb bombs were also supplied for solid racks which run span-wise-they should be chord-wise matching the wing ribs. Most all outlines accord closely to currently available scale drawings and fuselage halves exhibit some very fine detail right down to wrinkled fabric panels and stitching.Control horns are moulded to all control surfaces;the four-bladed airscrew is near perfect, and assembly is eased by linked pairs of struts, their tie-bars nestling firmly into corresponding upper wing slots. The kit represents a Rolls Royce Eagle VIII-engined version with lowered turtledeck. Decals have yellowed over age and provide  A7442 of No.23 Squadron with their crescent markings. An extra decal sheet from the 1972 boxed reissue is included along with some spares:guns; airscrew and Lewis gun Scarff mounting replacing some parts missing from the original packet. The wrapper is somewhat worn with some minor biro marks that do not detract from the superb Roy Cross artwork which remains as vivid and evocative as when the kit first appeared nearly half a century ago...
