Testors' re-imagining of Hawk's venerable 1950's Nieuport 17 C.1 speaks volumes for the overall quality of the original tool-making for it barely reveals its true age. Surface detail of fuselage halves is greatly improved and a redesigned airscrew now has a proper shaft as opposed to the original's dress-maker's pin! This is a great kit to build, with less than two dozen parts, overhauled instructions and accurate painting guides that make it an ideal introduction to modelling 1:48 scale WWI aircraft kits. Superb new decals and a resin figure of a typical French aviator complete this rejuvenated classic!

THIS reissue of Hawk's original 1958 Nieuport 17 was packaged in an attractive new box with images of a well-made model attributed to Mark Dickinson. Despite a fully revised boxing, the content is much the same as the original with its 23 parts now moulded in dark grey rather than silver. An opportunity to remove embossed roundel locations from the wings was not taken but fuselage halves and rudder were cleaned up. Better still,the bogus engraved fuselage 'side stringers' are gone,replaced with finely- raised vertical spacer positions and rudder detail is much improved. The revamp comes with a large detailed instruction 'booklet' providing authentic colour guides and potted aircraft history as well as a full colour Testors mini-catalogue showcasing contemporary kit ranges; finishing materials; paint sets and a complete paint chart.An excellent new ScaleMaster decal sheet presents markings for Robert Soubiron's N1977 of the Lafayette Escadrille with black fuselage band and the iconic Sioux Indian head motif-all sharply printed.
