1:48 KARAYA AVIATIK D.II ''U-Berg''
A FAST BERG!
This unusual sesquiplane was never designed to replace the famous Aviatik D.I but as an experiment to increase performance. Results were excellent but the type never entered wholesale production and just 16 were built and assigned to Flik 61J. The superb Karaya resin kit was released in 2005 and is all-resin, the quality and finesse of the parts being top class. We have just one example in near-mint order.
This experimental version of the famous Austro-Hungarian Aviatik D.I fighter was conceived in late 1917 for an improved high performance aircraft. Flight tests were encouraging and 16 were finally built. Some went to Flik 61J for Front Line assessment but the radical sesquiplane variant would not enter series production despite its impressive speed and handling. Karaya released this superb 1:48 scale kit in 2005 as their Cat. No.48004 and it remains one of the finest examples of a WWI resin kit ever produced. The external moulded detail is first rate with wing ribs, louvres and surface detail exemplary throughout. An exquisite Austro-Daimler motor is a kit all in itself, whilst interior cockpit details are similarly complete. The box also includes a wheel mask set, clear film dashboard, some ultra-fine PE items and a decal sheet that provides Autumn 1917 and February 1918 colour schemes for the subject aircraft 39.01.So you have a choice of Autumn-Leaf pattern or a three colour camouflage scheme.
