SUPERLATIVE SPAD!
THIS excellent mixed medium kit of the SPAD VII in 1:48 by French JMGT is as good as it gets*. Most parts are of resin and to a very high quality with surface detail that would put many a modern plastic kit to shame. Our kit has been started by the previous owner with some cockpit areas pre-assembled- and painted as have the struts, airscrew and Vickers MG. But there's still plenty to do and the dual language instructions provide stacks of camouflage drawings, assembly diagrams and colour notes for multiple decal options. There are two sheets of markings for six colourful Escadrille examples, including Guynemer's famous S.254, and they also include nine sets of numbers in the correct font which will be invaluable for other models. This really is one of the best WWI resin kits ever produced and one of the most accurate SPAD VIIs to this scale. The kit is now quite scarce and we have just the one example with its contents in excellent condition all individually bagged inside the restored box.
*CONTAINS BUILDING NOTES BY DEREK DAVIS!

HIGH quality resin from France which remained, for some time, the most accurate and well-engineered 1:48 scale model of this famous early SPAD fighter. It is a composite materials kit with white metal detail parts and a modest PE sheet bearing radiator grille; engine bearers; myriad cockpit fittings and external aileron control system. Main parts are resin-in authentic natural shades-and include a two-piece fuselage exquisitely detailed inside and out with sharply-rendered nose louvres and panels; highly convincing stringer representation and thin wing panels bearing fine rib tapes with fuel tank and strut attachment plate details in situ. White metal takes care of all struts; the airscrew; exhaust pipes and Vickers gun-all excellent quality castings.
Detailed instruction sheet is dual language with exploded assembly diagrams and colour notes for the six decal options supplied. There are two sheets that offer a set of French roundels; nine sets of numerals in the correct font-black and white-plus serials, personal and unit markings for Guynemer's famous S.254; two SPADs operated by Spa 15 and colourful individual examples from Escadrille Spa 65, 81 and 84.Completing the content, a clear vac-formed acetate bearing three windscreen styles-all very comprehensive.
SPECIAL NOTE: The model had already been started by its original owner with a semi-painted cockpit interior and some PE installed, together with pre-painted struts, Vickers MG and airscrew. Most are in a primer that can be over-painted to suit. All parts have been distributed among several zip lock bags for added protection. Contents are in mint condition, the sturdy box less so and some portions have been repaired and strengthened with a sponge insert provided for good measure...
NB: Our dear friend the late Derek Davis presented his superb build of this kit on page 7 of WINDSOCK International Vol.10, No.2, March /April 1994-an issue no longer available. However we have enclosed a 'reprint' of his article with the kit giving modellers invaluable inspiration.
