1:48 GLENCOE NIEUPORT 28 C.1

PIONEER US FIGHTER!

MADE famous by emerging American aces in 1918, the Nieuport 28 was a step-up from the French company's previous 'Vee-strutter'  sesquiplane designs and performed well in service despite an un-nerving tendency to shred fabric from its wings! Post Armistice saw many surplus Nieuports employed by Hollywood studios for various celluloid epics such as The Dawn Patrol-twice!-and others. Glencoe revamped the old Aurora kit  during 1995 in attractive new boxing  that included a sparkling Scale Master decal sheet bearing six colourful options. Happily, most all the original embossed markings had been excised from the mouldings. Our example of the kit  is complete with all 34 parts in very good condition-as are the decals- everything being as sharp and complete as when the kit was first released.

AMONG several ex-Aurora moulds purchased and reworked by Glencoe Models in 1995 was the classic French-designed Nieuport 28. Made legendary in 1918 as the first US fighter aeroplane to se action, it initially equipped the 94th and 95th Aero Squadrons of America's Expeditionary Force. Glencoe  did a masterly job of removing Aurora's embossed  markings from wings and fuselage leaving only the fin/rudder stripes untouched. The kit contains 25 pale fawn parts: seven in light grey and the twin Vickers in silver-both mechanic and ground base from the original kit are included. The Glencoe re-issue provides detailed painting instructions, new John Amendola box art; Chuck Sterns' colour profiles underneath the box with a stunning new ScaleMaster Invisi-clear decal sheet bearing six individual AEF schemes complete with cowl decorations; national insignia; unit motifs and serials where applicable. It's a great selection and the happily the sheet remains in usable condition. Plastic content is complete and in good condition with all parts repackaged in poly bags to mitigate against loss or damage..
