A STAGGERING DOLPHIN!

FROM Copper State Models in 2016, and reviewed in the Winter edition of WINDSOCK WWC that year, is this total revision of  CSM's previous Dolphin resin kits released in 1999 and 2014. The upgraded  'Premium Edition' is injection-moulded and a quantum leap over its precursors. Well detailed, crisp plastic pieces along with extra resin parts for an accurate Hispano-Suiza motor; metal exhaust pipes; four-option decal sheet; a pair of comprehensive PE sheets with a large number of delicate and convincing details make up the main content. Bonus items unique to this kit include extra decals from an earlier CSM Dolphin; a PE British gauge set of bezels; resin RFC/RAF standing pilot  and a xeroxed paper roll of highly detailed, fully-annotated 1:48 scale drawings complete  with internals and control systems drawn by Bill Titus of the USA. Everything is in mint condition including the double-layered box. One only...

*CONTAINS EXTRA PARTS AND DECALS!

AS-NEW example of Copper State Models' 1:48 scale Sopwith 5F.1 Dolphin, the third iteration of their model first released as a resin/white metal kit in 1999.This totally revised version is now injection-moulded with two packed frames bearing myriad parts to an extremely high standard, although several outline accuracy issues are revealed after comparison with available scale drawings-none being serious and easily rectified. Convincing representation of fabric stitching and stringers is commendable as are the subtle rib and riblet treatment of the fine-sectioned trailing edged wings and tail-plane. Two versions were released in 2016 and this 'Premium Edition' includes an excellent five-piece resin Hispano-Suiza engine and a pair of darkened metal exhausts. PE content is generous with two sheets bearing multiple items such as wicker-woven seat; plentiful cockpit and Vickers MG detail plus minuscule strut fish-plates. Decals provide four choices: C3824 from No. 23 Squadron RAF in 1918; the colourful C4131 of No.29 Sqdn. with its turtledeck chequers plus C4157 and C4168 both on the strength of No.87 Sqdn.

The 16 page instruction manual is decidedly 'Wingnut-esque' in style offering detailed painting notes with colour-coded assembly diagrams, rigging guide and colour profiles.

*EXTRAS! Our kit also contains bonus materials: CSM British gauge set; a decal sheet from the previous K1010 issue with markings for Nos.81 and 93 Squadrons, an Alley Cat RFC/RAF pilot figure in resin plus highly-detailed 1:48 scale drawings. Quite a comprehensive package, unique to this store, with all mint contents being re-sealed in new 'Zip-Lock' polythene bags.

Dolphin detail: Recommended references include WINDSOCK DATAFILE 54 by Jack Bruce published in 1995 and Profile Publications No. 169 (1967) by the same author. Both available here as well as our WNW Dolphin modelling special No.7 that features Ronny Bar colour profiles, archive images and colour close-up photos of the RAFM 5F.1-all equally invaluable for CSM kits; please see the links below...
