1:48 BLUE MAX BRISTOL M.1C (BM115), 2001
BRISTOL FASHION!
ONE of the best WWI fighters Western Front RFC units never had thanks to official War Office bias against monoplanes. Yet the Bristol M.1C was an excellent machine and would have made a great impact on the air war if it had ever made it to France. The Blue Max kit is one of their best with a clever mix of metal and plastic parts to create an accurate 1:48 scale model of this classic Frank Barnwell design*. The box, that showcases the talents of artist Paul Monteagle, and its contents are in mint order as is the sharply-printed decal sheet that offers a choice of markings.

THE Bristol Monoplane was an advanced 1916 Frank Barnwell design that never saw Western Front RFC unit service thanks to the War Office's badly-misjudged distrust of monoplane designs that relegated it to Middle Eastrne theatres and UK training squadrons. The 2001 Blue Max kit is an accurate and well-produced product in metal and plastic with a clever one-piece wing assembly for easy build. Pewter parts provide a convincing coclkpit assembly, along with a ten piece 110-hp Le Rhone together with the cowling and airscrew spinner bowl. Convincing fuselage stringer and wing/tail rib detail add greatly to authenticity. Decals provide provide markings for a camouflaged No.150 Squadron example, C4912, and C4940 a striped training machine based at Turnberry in 1918. Full painting notes are supplied in the instructions. This kit is 1397 from the 1500 limited run production.
