PIONEERING PLASTIC PFALZ!
This is a complete example of the 1957 Aurora Pfalz D.III Kit No.109 from their early 'Famous Fighters' series that included warplanes of both World Wars. The box is worn but the contents are virtually mint with two decal sheets as illustrated-one unusable and one barely so. For collectors and nostalgia buffs however, this is a prime example of what for its day was one of ther US company's most popular releases. One only...
FIRST released in 1957-I was 5 years' old back then!-this was one of the most popular kits of the classic Aurora WWI 'Famous Fighters' series in 1:48 scale. Moulded in silver grey with a black 'accessories' runner, the wings and fuselage bore the markings of 1370/17 heavily embossed to aid (hamper, actually) decal placement-this was typical of Aurora kits in their early days. The Pfalz would become available in a number of versions with the British Playcraft (Corgi) kit coming in a polythene bag with paper header like the first Airfix Series 1 and 2 kits from the period. This complete example is something of a hybrid with its rare Aurora Netherlands boxing that boasts instructions in six languages.The instructions here are English only however, originating from Aurora Plastics Corp, Hempstead, New York, USA. The plastic is vintage 1950s with all parts present and correct including the original poly' contents bag complete with tears and rusty staples. There are two decal sheets in the worn box;one well past its sell-by date and another of more recent vintage that could be made usable-at a very big pinch! For collectors though, this is a real bargain and with a lot of work, plus some plastic card wizardry, a pretty decent model can be produced if you are that intent on building it as I discussed in the November and December 1976 editions of Scale Models magazine...
