(1109) PFALZ D.III (1972)

THE 1972 RE-ISSUE!

IN the early seventies, Aurora re-introduced ten of their early WWI and inter-war aircraft subjects, modifying the moulds and including new decals-all packaged in eye-catching boxes with dramatic new art. The Pfalz D-3 was one of the most popular of these and like most of the others had the originals' crude embossed decal positions eradicated for good-the ground base and mechanics were not included: instead a large vacformed terrain base completed the package. Our Aurora Canada kit 1109 is in mint order with just some minor wear on box lid edges.

*CONTAINS RARE HISTORICAL COLOURS DATA!

ISSUED in 1972,this was a modest revision of the original 1958 Pfalz D.3 release (109)-gone were the embossed 'idiot marks' of the decal positions, fuselage and rudder-thickening the latter somewhat! Curiously the weights' table on the starboard shell remained but it's easily shaved off. We have a near-mint example of this over-sized Aurora boxing with John Amendola's evocative artwork on the lid. The kit, like the other nine vintage aircraft re-releases,was also marketed and sold in the UK under the K&B label-an Aurora subsidiary-but logos apart the models were virtually identical. There is a brand new decal sheet with the markings of Vzfw. Hecht in Jasta 10 based on the old Profile Publications art- of course we now know that the tailplane section of 1370/17 was green and the stripes black-not yellow. Full details of this aircraft's actual finish may be found on pages 11,12 and 18 of the WINDSOCK Special 20th Anniversary Edition (1985-2005) available from this webstore-see below.  If you want something a bit less hackneyed, several after-market 1:48 scale decals for these 'Pfalzen' are still available-you just need to Google them... As per the initial release, there's a number of smaller items moulded in black with the remainder being silver grey. The box includes the vacform base originally supplied and often wisely discarded by modellers-it does make a useful tray for holding the sub-assemblies though...

EXTRAS! Our kit includes unique bonus material! Original 1965 correspondence from historians Alex Imrie to Peter L Gray regarding colours and marking suggestions for Profile No.43 with sketches!
